Saying “may you fare better than Dutch did” isn’t a spoiler in any way, shape, or form — the first fucking scene of Red Dead Redemption 2 is about how Dutch’s gang is in a terrible spot, deteriorating because of his decisions — so please stop bitching just for the sake of bitching. Read more

...Did you think that things were going to end well for Dutch’s gang, or any gang? You know that this is a prequel to Red Dead 1, right? You know that the West was tamed, right? Read more
I appreciate that, thanks! Read more
Consider it free DLC. I’m actually working on a new book right now, but it’s a bit different than the first one! Read more
Yes, yes, yes. Very good comment. Thanks for sharing this. I know there will be a lot of headlines and videos about this article declaring “Activision RUINED Blizzard?!?!” pointing to Diablo Immortal or whatever but of course the reality is so much more subtle and can be insidious, not immediate. I think Titan’s development is worth a lengthy story in and of itself, one that maybe I’ll get a chance to tell one day (although I did report what it was back in 2014: https://kotaku.com/heres-what-blizzards-titan-actually-was-1638632121) Read more
I think this is a good guess, other than TLOU2! Read more

No, what I’m saying is that nobody should pay attention to headlines like “Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI will use Bethesda’s old engine” because they’re deceptive, inaccurate, and basically meaningless. Feel free to criticize Bethesda’s bugs all you want. I’m not sure how much clearer I can make this. Read more
I mean, I’ll certainly wait for reviews before I buy either of those. Fallout 4 left me feeling kinda burned. Read more

I thought it was pretty clear that the purpose of this article was to debunk the dumb headlines about how “Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI will use Bethesda’s same engine.” Fallout 76's ugliness, frequent bugs, and jank are unrelated to my argument (although the game sure does sound mediocre). I’m currently trying to figure out how to bring it back for the next one. Read more
I hope the rest of the article made it clear that the outward-facing parts of an engine are just that — parts of it. Even when a game looks and feels the same, the underlying software will likely look very different from year to year because it’s changing constantly. Read more
Yep, very true. Skyrim set a new bar for open-world RPGs, but other companies have raised it, and Bethesda hasn’t kept up. I think there are many fair criticisms worth making about their games, and I look forward to seeing if they’re addressed in Starfield. (It’s a bummer that so much of the studio’s time has been focu… Read more
And you’re more than welcome to criticize that! (Personally, I loved Skyrim to death but was realllly disappointed by Fallout 4.) I’m just hoping to explain to people what an engine actually is and why there’s no reason to panic when you see headlines like “Bethesda won’t change its engine for TESVI.” Read more
For me and lots of other people (even including some people at Obsidian), it was marred by Divinity Original Sin 2, which took isometric RPGs to the next level. It was very difficult to get much enjoyment out of POE2's combat system after DOS2's transcendent battles. Read more
