I'd say open world games are a great example of making actual gameplay funny. Saints Row 2 is probably the best example. Sure it has plenty of funny one liners and cut scenes, but demolishing an underground shanty town by throwing homeless people through shacks doesn't really need any explanation to be hilarious. This is a very bad move. I love Mass Effect, and was glad that they limited Shepard to being human in the game, but Mass Effect is not Dragon Age, it's a cinematic RPG, as opposed to more of a sandbox, like Dragon Age.
