You'd be surprised at the level of English the Chinese kids are at. It kind of shames the Taiwanese kids who have been exposed to English for much longer. Of course Hong Kongers will always be the top English speakers of the Chinese world (apart from foreign born Chinese). Read more

One thing to note is that companies in China are subject to the Chinese government's every whim. Whereas back home in the States, the companies maybe subject to US laws and regulations but they have rights that they can use to protect themselves. Read more

Unfortunately this post was mostly a translation but you hit the nail on the head. One of the things I've noticed is indeed just that. The industry has begun moving towards safe rather than innovative and that can said as a problem for all of China. Read more

China's got loads of "ethnic minorities". There are Chinese who are part of the Kzakh and Uyghur minority groups that look like you're average Caucasian American or European. Read more

They were phased out of Beijing around 2010, the last one I saw was down by Fengtai about a year ago =[. They're still about in some cities like Kunming, though I haven't been down there yet. Read more
