While Atlus originally announced the PlayStation Portable role-playing game Crimson Gem Saga last month, now that they've got screens and box art they're announcing it again.
According to Atlus, Crimson Gem Saga is a "Return to essential RPG fun" for the PSP. You've got your hand-drawn 2D graphics, an engaging fantasy storyline, and an easy-to-use interface. It's actually the sequel to the 2005 PSP game Astonishia Story, which itself is a remake of a Korean PC game from 1994. That's neither here nor there, as the sequel contains a whole new cast, a brand new story, and a completely new localization for North America, with more than 1,000 lines of newly recorded voice work.
Along with the more traditional role-playing game elements, Crimson Gem Saga will feature a deep turn-based combat system, with a Critical Combo System and team attacks allowing the player to attack the enemy's weak spot for massive damage.
As generally is the case, Atlus never announces anything without a release date and a price already in mind, so look for Crimson Gem Saga on May 26, 2009 for $29.99.
