Ark: Survival Evolved is one of the biggest games on Steam. It’s also still in Early Access. Most importantly, though, it has dinosaurs. And poop.

Ark’s definitely not done yet, but it already has more than 40,000 Steam reviews. They’re mostly positive, with a not insubstantial number of negatives dinging the game for too much grinding, longtime performance issues (even on some high-end PCs), and the alleged presence of hackers on servers. The best reviews, though, are the ones that tell a story, and boy do Ark players ever have some good material to work with.

I love Ark. It’s ridiculously fun and stupidly addictive... taming stuff is rewarding and frustrating (because it can take so DANG LONG). With the longer tames (2-4 hours), I just keep my 3DS/Vita on hand and play that while I wait. One of my favorite things to do is to hunt newbies and hit them in the head with a tranq arrow... once they’re unconscious, I go into their inventory and give them armor and tools.

After all the time we’ve put into the game, me and my friends decided that, if we were to be wiped out (and all our stuff destroyed), we’d end up going to a non-official server with faster taming speed and more resources.
