The Elysea and Asmodae take the battle to the Balaur this September, when Ncsoft releases the first major free expansion for the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game Aion, Assault on Balaurea.

Assault on Balaurea is the full name of Aion's 2.0 update, which we've discussed previously at length. The expansion pack sized update gives the player characters a chance to take the fight against the powerful Balaur to their homeworld of Balaurea, gaining five new levels in the process, courtesy of level cap increase to 55.

It's not just about high level content either. New and updated instances and zones, new weapons, and the introduction of functional in-game pets should give players of all levels something to be excited about.

The expansion launches on September 7 in North America and Europe as a free download. Those wishing to pay for their free expansion packs will be able to purchase a retail box on release day in North America (September 10 in Europe) that features exclusive in-game pets.

Check out the new screens below to see how the world of Atreia is changing this fall.

Well i can make a quick list of what made me leave Aion after 3 months.

1 - The grind after level cap. We know nothing comes without effort but come on... the only sure thing about level cap in Aion is more grind to be able to grind some more.

2 - The massive pvp battles is awesome, except, 98% of the computers crash the game when there's more than 40 ppl on screen, so for most ppl, that meant playing the fun part of the game with the low settings and wit the characters disabled, only seeing their names were the body should be. Awesome...

3 - The only PVP arena event in the game, which was actually fun, could be exploited as long as you had an assassin in the team. It was a checkpoint/point kind of system, the thing is, the assassin could go ahead, sneak past all the guards, glitch/destroy all the checkpoints (getting all the points) before anyone could even get close.

4 - The only end game instance was time based and required stupid amounts of money/resources to get in each time.

5 - In the last patch before i left, the mass pvp areas were so fucked up that the castles were impossible to take over, since they reduced the battle time from 1h to 30mins and nobody was able to produce any DPS even remotely close to get it down in time, this without anyone defending.

So nobody even bothered to go defend when the event started.

It was so fast that even the NPCs that were supposed to be in the game to help out balance faction numbers, couldn't get there in time...

So here you go, there's your list.

Not sure if they fixed any of this by now, but for me its way too late.

This really put me off from any NCsoft product.
