Lacking anything better to do in Finland, a team of Nokia researchers have created a touchscreen made entirely out of ice.

First off, I kid Finland. There is plenty to do in Finland, of course. There's even a song about it.

Finaland also has plenty of ice, and when that ice is cut into blocks, polished with a heat gun, and then beamed through with an near-infrared light source, all it takes is a little computer tracking to turn it into the world's first ice touchscreen.

"This was a playful experiment, but one that we think showed interactive computing interfaces can now be built anywhere," says Jyri Huopaniemi at Nokia's research lab in Tampere, whose team built the touchscreen, dubbed Ubice, or ubiquitous ice.

You can read all about the ice touchscreen's creation over at the New Scientist. The main point you need to take away from all of this, is that Finland seems like a fun place to be a Nokia researcher.
