“Nothing lasts forever,” my mother told me when I was a child. “Not even 2K’s library of games—a few of which are pretty solid—on the App Store.
In advance of iOS 11's launch, 2K has announced that it’s doing some renovations on its lineup of iOS games, upgrading a couple to 64 bit and removing others permanently. First up, here are all the permanent removals:
- Carnival Games
- Carnival Games Lite
- Ace Patrol
- Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies
- Sid Meier’s Pirates!
- Duke Nukem Forever Soundboard
- Haunted Hollow
- WWE 2K
I can’t even begin to fathom how I’ll live knowing that I missed the boat on downloading a Duke Nukem Forever Soundboard. Now I’ll have to experience the sounds of human feces ricocheting off a grimy bathroom mirror manually. What a terrible day.
Sid Meier’s Pirates, on the other hand, rules, and you should download it before it’s gone forever. (Update 5:15 PM: Note that 32-bit games probably won’t run in iOS 11, so you’ll need to keep a device in an earlier version of iOS to play games like Pirates.)
Only two games, XCOM: Enemy Within and Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2, are getting 64-bit makeovers. This means they’re also getting removed from the App Store, but only temporarily. 2K has not said when, exactly, they’ll be returning.
Lastly, MyNBA2K17, WWE SuperCard, NBA 2K17, Mafia III: Rivals, NHL SuperCard 2K17, and Battleborn Tap will all be iOS 11-compatible straight away.
Today is the final day before all of this goes into effect, so grab any games you want while you can. If you’ve purchased them previously, however, you can rest easy. They’ll all remain downloadable via iTunes’ “purchased” tab.
