Shuten Order
Too Kyo Games has had two certified bangers this year. Shuten Order might not be in the same GOTY conversations The Hundred Line will likely be mentioned in come December, but the multi-genre mystery game still leans into the Danganronpa team’s strengths. The game stars an amnesiac woman who is told by a pair of angels that she has been revived by God in order to solve her own murder, and depending on who you accuse, you’ll solve the mystery in a completely different game genre. There’s a puzzle-driven escape room route, a hide-and-seek horror one, and much more. None of these individual excursions is a revolutionary spin on their respective genres, but as a collective work, Shuten Order is an ambitious mystery with Danganronpa lead Kazutaka Kodaka’s signature brand of elaborate pay-off waiting for you at the end. — Kenneth Shepard
