As the name implies, Helldivers 2 is the sequel to Helldivers, Arrowhead Game Studios’ 2015 top-down shooter about fighting enemy species while protecting Super Earth from calamity. Though the premise is largely the same, the sequel shifts from overhead to traditional third-person to create a more intimate perspective, putting you closer to the action. It’s a great move that combines tight shooting gameplay with the Starship Troopers-esque satire of the original. At a time when live-service games seem more tired than ever, Helldivers 2 is a shining example of what these games can be.
