For as long as we’ve had Mass Effect, we’ve had fans working to improve the PC versions of the series. That effort has hit a new high recently with a compilation of 4K textures for Mass Effects 2 & 3 that have them looking a bit more 2017.
The Mass Effect 2 packs can be downloaded here, while the Mass Effect 3 ones are here. Note that, being big-ass texture packs, these are massive downloads, at 2.8 and 4.9GB respectively.
Some fun trivia: the packs “normalise” the textures of the game so that they’re all the same resolution (in the vanilla game quality would vary between objects), and also restore some hidden textures to the game, such as hi-res “promo” versions of certain items that would have featured in marketing screenshots and/or trailers.
The various authors also went and made a whole bunch of new textures, and will be adding more in updates that are being worked on.
Below you can see a video by UniqueActive that shows the textures in action:
Because they’re a compilation and not the work of a single person or team, you can check out the full credits for those involved here.
