Greetings, Kotaku! It’s the weekend: my name is Phil Hornshaw, and I’ll be your guest editor for the next two glorious days.
Yes, that’s a Mass Effect joke in the headline. I’m in Los Angeles and it’s early here, folks. We’re constantly at the mercy of the rest of the country having a better time zone than us. I got up at about 5:30 this morning, which for you East Coasters is roughly 8:52 p.m.
But I’ve got coffee and adrenaline! Video games whoo! It’s gonna be a good time.
And now, by way of kicking things off, a little about me:
I have surprisingly few decent photos of myself.
I’m not great at Photoshop.
You can generally find my work kicking around Playboy.com these days (you can leave your “just reading it for the articles!” jokes in the comments), but I formerly worked over at the dearly departed GameFront.com. When I’m not talking at length about video games, I’m a sci-fi and horror guy, and I’ve had the distinct honor of publishing two books: So You Created a Wormhole: The Time Traveler’s Guide to Time Travel and The Space Hero’s Guide to Glory: How to Get Off Your Podunk Planet and Master the Final Frontier.
I like talking about stories in games and I hope to do some of that this weekend. In my spare time, I’ll yammer at length about Alien: Isolation and Back to the Future if you’ll let me, and I’m trying to find some kind of summer training camp for Rocket League. And I’m excited to be here! Let’s go whoo the sun’s up finally!
