Today's Pokémon Anime Special Was Kind of Nuts

In Japan, an hour Pokémon special just aired on TV. It starred Pikachu. Lots of Pikachus. But mostly, even by Pokémon standards, it was bonkers.

The special was called Pokémon XY: Pikachu the Movie, and was divided into several parts (more here), but set against the making of a Pikachu movie. How meta. But actually, it was super interesting. I dug it.

The #anipoke Twitter tag for the anime series has been trending in Japan, and below, you can see some of the images people have been uploading (note that these might be spoilers if you plan on watching the special):

Then, in another segment, this odd dude shows up. He really likes Pikachu!

Wait a second...

That’s Pikachu’s voice actor Ikue Otani. What is this, Shirobako?

Are Ash and co. doing voice acting, too?

There was even a blooper reel:

So, that’s seventeen Pikachus, each weighing 13 pounds... Not unusual for this anime! This special, though, certainly was.
