An Adventure Game Built For The Apple Watch

Did you panic last week and stay up late to preorder a first-generation Apple Watch like some idiot? Me too. And here comes developer Wayforward Technologies to mildly justify it with Watch Quest.

Launching April 24, hopefully the same day my Apple Watch Sport arrives in the post, Watch Quest is an adventure game that lives on the iPhone but plays on your wrist. Players will equip a hero and select adventures on their larger-screened iDevices, which can then play out passively or actively on the watch, depending on how you want to play.

Or as the official announcement puts it:

Gameplay revolves around choosing a hero and equipping them on the iPhone, and then guiding the Hero via the Apple Watch as he or she travels lands, battles monsters, solves puzzles, and searches for treasures. Players are invited to play passively by selecting longer, easier quests and outfitting the hero up front – or by taking on more difficult quests which require foraging for items as you go.

Watch Quest will be a free-to-download type game, with in-app purchases for new characters and adventure campaigns. Characters including some familiar faces. Maybe a purple-haired genie?

Yeah it’s a small little thing, but knowing I can have a little Wayforward on my wrist makes me feel slightly better about spending a stupid amount of money on brand-new tech. I welcome the new age of micro-gaming. Now where’s my Tamagotchi?
