If You Want To Play This Arcade Game, You've Gotta Find It

The MAME emulator has, for over a decade now, let people play arcade classics in the comfort of their own home. But it's worth remembering that while the vast majority of games are out there and playable, at least in some form, not all of them are. Some, you simply have to play on the real thing.

Gamshara is one of them. A 2002 "Cabal" shooting game, it stands as probably the finest entry in a dead genre (which you can read more about here). It's also one of the few games that has never been successfully emulated, meaning that if you want to play Gamshara, you need to get hold of (or travel to) an actual arcade board/cabinet.

Course, that's how things stand now. This came up because I was reading a piece on the ever-excellent HG101, where it's mentioned that the game's developer, Mitchell, is shopping its back catalogue around for interested publishers/licensees.

Which is all kinds of cool, because Mitchell's games haven't been ported to consoles or handhelds before, and most folks would never have seen their titles, let alone played them. So hey, if the stuff's being shopped around and it's picked up by a Western company, you might get to play games like Gamshara after all.
