The Patapon BearBrick Vinyl Toy

Artist Rolito, the man behind the stylish graphics of Patapon has produced this vinyl toy based on the upcoming PSP game. The toy, which is part of the custom BearBrick series, will be available in stores on Feb. 26th. There's no word on the price, but given the size and what I've seen of other BearBrick prices it should be around $5.99 or so. But, don't quote me on that.

CliffyB Plays With Transformers Dolls

Epic's Lead Designer and tiny little gaming god Cliff Bleszinski may come off as all hip and cool, but deep down inside he's just a big old geek like many of you people. After Wizard Entertainment's Toyfare listed the lancer chainsaw from Gears of War as one of the 50 greatest fictional weapons of all time, he got in touch with them to let them know what a huge, toy-collecting dork he was, even going as far as to include pictures of his office, like the one above, brimming with Transformers dolls. Ha! His favorite TF?
The obvious choice is Optimus Prime but to be honest I've always had a soft spot for Springer since he's a triple changer that uses his helicopter blades as a friggin' sword. I mean, come on, how cool is that?

Game Construction, The Newtoon Way

Former Edge editor Margaret Robertson has been musing on the nature of play in her Lookspring weblog, and has particularly been focusing on Newtoon, a Java-based play tool by Soda Play that "...lets you make little 2D physics-based games entirely out of balls and springs."

She notes that "...the game bit comes in through some devilishly simple grammar. Each ball can, if you so chose, be designated a goal, hazard, or player token. The token can be controlled by the arrow keys: touch a hazard and it's game over, touch the goal and it's a win." Robertson's conclusion?

"I've done my time with idiot-proof game creators - with RPG Maker, and Dark Basic and various modding tools, but am usually defeated by the same failings that Meccano used to reveal. With Newtoon, it will take an actual act of an actual god to prevent you from making a game. It's the Wario Ware of game-makers, something you really can play with for 2 minutes and find rewarding."

Sounds like a bit of a laugh, then - and yet again showcases the fact that physics is the new black.

PlayStation Store Update: Cupcake Break Is Over

This week's newest additions to the PlayStation Store thankfully won't take you away from enjoying your favorite games. While there's plenty of content, there won't be anything causing damage on the internet tubes due to download riots on the PlayStation Network. Enthusiastically or not, PlayStation 3 owners can try their hand at Toy Home and Blazing Angels 2, both of which are in demo form on the Store now.

Promotional trailers for the PlayStation Network itself, Toy Home, High Velocity Bowling, Pain, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future, TimeShift, Time Crisis 4, Battlefield: Bad Company and Burnout Paradise have also been added.

Toy Home IS Re-Volt PS3

We were big fans of Re-Volt. Seriously, we loved the game almost as much as R.C. Pro-Am, not just because it combined our love for all things R/C with all thing video game, but because the game was a surprising amount of fun. We're not sure if PSN title Toy Home will be as good, but it's looking mighty similar. Here's hoping. Oh, and here's hoping Sony announces NA and EU launch dates, too.

Eye of Judgment's Retail Display

The Eye of Judgment set up over in the Sony booth is pretty big, there are six tables set up, two of which are set up for playing head-to-head online and the rest are designed to be played side-by-side on a single machine. At one end of the area was a large glass display case with a selection of some of the retails card packs and boxes. I hate to say this, because of all of the required equipment and space, but I'm really looking forward to this game.

Chobot Gets (In)Action Figure

Jessica Chobot, whose PSP licking antics here on Kotaku lead to a writing gig on RedAssedBaboon and then a hosting gig on IGN, is getting her very own set of anime-styled action figures.

Apparently the folks at Southern Island were so enamored with the real Chobot when they met her at Comic Con, they decided they needed to make a couple of little statues of her. Each of the statues, designed by Kerry Shyver, will be sold as limited edition 500-piece runs. The foot-high statues will be hand numbered, but will not feature any licking... instead she will be nibbling on a 360 controller.

Fahey, another RAB alum, thinks they should drop the whole sexy writer angle and focus on a Fahey action figure, one that you can order but never actually ships because it keeps missing its flights.

Metal Gear Solid 4's Raiden Gets All Dolled Up

Medicom Toy is readying a play date buddy for the Real Action Heroes edition of Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The high-end toy manufacturer will be releasing a 12 inch version of MGS4's Raiden in sexy, sensible heels to keep old Snake company.

At $175, it might be a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Sideshow Collectibles has quality shots of the prototype figure, one which promises price appropriate articulation and accessories. It's due to ship in Q2 of 2008, but if you've got the cash, I'd suggest putting in your pre-order now.

Toy Home Coming To PlayStation Network

What is Toy Home? Good question! This PlayStation Network release was unceremoniously announced via the PlayStation press site today alongside zero details. Oddly enough, the game was playable at Sony's Gaming Arcade at this years E3, but received little in the way of attention. Even I passed it by, in a rather big hurry to make my appointment to see Eye of Judgment for the PLAYSTATION 3.

At first blush, the game looks like a nod to Micro Machines, Toy Commander and Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. We'll be in touch with SCEA reps to find out exactly what this mystery release is and when we'll get to play it.

The Wee Wii USB Drive

Joystiq's Wii Fanboy has a story up of a Wendy's Kids Meal toy, a USB thumbdrive and a Wii Remote... don't worry it has a happy ending. A gamer gutted one of those tiny Wii toy remotes from Wendy's and slapped in a USB thumdrive to create this wicked little device. Pretty damn neat idea, too bad he couldn't add a little nunchuck to it too.

The Transformer Handheld

Not all transforming robots can have cool names like Starscream or Megatron and turn into things like gi-normous scorpions or kick-ass 60s race cars. The Transformers and Decepticons need their support staff too, the bots that deal with communications, with video and with data. Meet POWER UP VT6, by day a handheld gaming system, by night a data hacker and mind-scrambler. Cool abilities, really bad name. More »

Super Mario Noisemaker Plushes

As usual, Wonderland brightens my day with a bit of silly toy fun. This time around, Super Mario noisemaker plushes. One's a Question Block, the other a turtle shell. It'd be kinda fun to hang those blocks up around the house and occasionally jump up to score some coin.

New Dead Or Alive, Brings New Dead Or Alive Crap

Just because Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 didn't exactly set the world on fire, doesn't mean its game goods can't. (And some will argue that the series is now produced to sell certain segments of the population life-sized character pillows.) This year, DOAX2 gets a Kasumi beach resort statue, which doesn't really look like its in-game counterpart. I mean, look at those thin ankles! Kasumi has chunky ankles!! And those jubblies, Kasumi has — er... Yup, the fake plastic part, they got that right. More »

Live Arcade Toy Wars Screens Emerge

ZootFly, the developer behind the Ghostbusters game videos that caused a minor sensation earlier this week, has gifted XBL Arcade with exclusive screens of their upcoming Xbox Live Arcade game, Toy Wars.
No details as to what exactly the game is about, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess some kind of war involving toys. While the screens smack of an Army Men game or perhaps Twisted Metal: Small Brawl, I have to admit that I have a soft spot for any game that lets you play as a small protagonist in a big world. Perhaps being 6 foot 6 has something to do with that. Hit the link below for a more images! More »

Nintendo At German Toy Fair

Good news Deutschland people, not only do you have delicious beer and neato cars, but also a toy show at which Nintendo will be appearing! After a four year absence, the company will once again grace the Nuremberg Toy Fair says Nintendo Germany boss Bernd Fakesch. Fair runs February 1st to the 6th. Now, if we could just get Nintendo to appear at the Tokyo Game Show... (And keynotes don't count!) More »
