A projector that lets you take movie night outside anytime

Most portable projectors still require a plug-in, limiting where you can place the projector. Instead of using a typical AC adapter connection, this one uses USB-C Power Delivery, so most laptop chargers include enough wattage at 65W and the correct voltage and amperage ratings at 20V and 3.25A, allowing you to use those as well as power banks to run the projector. Aurzen estimates battery life at approximately an hour and a half from a 20,000mAh power bank, which lets you watch movies outdoors in the backyard or during camping trips. You’ll need the right power source: 65W or more with a 20V rating and 3.25A of amperage, plus a 5A E-Marker USB-C charging cable.

The second design element is the gimbal. As the name suggests, the gimbal lets you rotate the projector 180 degrees while maintaining stable movement thanks to its internal damping system, so you can aim a projected image at a wall or even upward onto the ceiling without worrying about the image slowly sagging over time. Aurzen also placed the power port at the base of the projector rather than at either end, which reduces cable clutter while you adjust the projection angle.

The projector runs on Roku TV. If you’re familiar with Roku players or Roku TVs, you’ll recognize the interface as identical. Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, YouTube, Apple TV, and the Roku Channel all appear on the home menu, and you can select any service to view the content available within each app. However, you’ll need a free Roku account to activate it, and each app still requires its own subscription.

Brightness comes in at 300 ANSI lumens, verified by SGS rather than a marketing figure. That’s enough for a dark bedroom or a backyard after sunset, and Aurzen recommends keeping the screen size around 80 inches for everyday viewing, though the projector will stretch the image up to 150 inches.

Auto focus and auto keystone square the picture up on their own once you set the projector down. HDMI eARC, USB-A, and a 3.5mm jack sit on the back behind a rubber strap, and the Aurzen Roku TV D1R air USB-C Powered Smart Portable Outdoor Projector is $150 right now instead of $240.
