A reliable WiFI mesh system to help speed up your connection

Instead of using just one router for your home Wi-Fi network, a mesh system uses multiple small units, called nodes, spread throughout the home but using only one network name. Each time you walk into range of another node, your device will automatically connect to it. The three Deco units that came with this purchase are identical, and together they cover as much as 7,600 square feet. More than 200 devices can be connected at once before performance starts to slip.

The third band is the reason this one carries the Pro name. 6GHz is a wide open lane with very little of the interference that clogs 2.4GHz and 5GHz in a neighborhood full of routers. It carries up to 5,188 Mbps, and the Deco can use it as a dedicated path between units, so mesh traffic isn’t taking bandwidth away from your devices. Multi-Link Operation lets a supported device use more than one band at the same time.

The back of each device has a total of four 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports, an uncommon design since many mesh systems typically only include a single gigabit Ethernet port or perhaps two. All four ports can receive the modem’s signal, while the remaining three can be used for other devices such as a desktop computer, a console, or a NAS. The BE63 uses wired and wireless backhaul at the same time rather than picking one or the other.

The Deco includes HomeShield, which scans your network for threats, provides parental controls, and notifies you of real-time threats. VPN server and VPN client support are both built in, so you can access an office VPN from every computer on the network without installing software on each one, or connect back into your home network from the road. Matter allows the Deco to manage certified smart home devices across the entire network.

At $322, down from $500, this is three units, twelve 2.5 Gbps ports, and 7,600 square feet of Wi-Fi 7 coverage. If your house has dead spots upstairs, you pay for gigabit internet you never actually see on your devices, or you have enough smart home gear to bog down an older router, this deals with it. Setup takes a few minutes in the Deco app.
