Seagate 5TB Portable HDD for Xbox Drops Below $0.03 per GB at Record Low, Includes 3-Year Rescue Data Recovery Services and 1-Year Warranty

For a limited time, Seagate has dropped the price of its 5TB Xbox game drive.

Game installs are ballooning at a pace that console storage can’t match. The Xbox Series X ships with a 1TB internal SSD, while the smaller Series S offers 512GB. That might sound roomy on paper, but a chunk of that space is reserved for system software. Once the operating system takes its share, the usable storage shrinks fast. Add in modern blockbusters—like last year’s Call of Duty Black Ops 7, which tips into the triple-digit gigabytes—and the squeeze becomes obvious. Keep more than three or four major titles installed at once and you’re stuck in a loop of deleting and reinstalling games just to make room.

An external drive can ease that pressure. The Seagate Game Drive for Xbox delivers a massive 5TB of additional storage, giving players breathing room for sprawling installs, updates, and downloadable content. The drive typically sells for $150, but it’s currently discounted by 7%, dropping the price to $140. That $10 savings isn’t much, but it is enough to score yourself Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator so… what more can be said?

More Gaming Ahead

There is a trade-off to understand before clicking “buy.” This model is a traditional hard disk drive (HDD), not a solid-state drive (SSD). HDDs rely on spinning platters and mechanical components, which makes them slower than the flash-based SSD inside the Series X|S. Because of that speed difference, Xbox Series X|S titles can’t be played directly from the external drive. To launch them, you’ll need to transfer the files from the HDD to the console’s internal storage.

That extra step may sound inconvenient, but it can still save time. Moving a game from the external drive to the internal SSD is often faster than downloading the entire file again from Microsoft’s servers—especially for players dealing with data caps or inconsistent internet speeds. Think of it as a digital shelf: your games are stored safely on the drive, ready to be moved over when you want to jump back in.

The situation improves for backward-compatible titles. Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games can run directly from the Seagate drive without requiring a transfer. The drive also works with older Xbox consoles, making it a practical option for households that still rotate between systems old and new.

Take Your Games Anywhere

The Seagate Game Drive is compact and easy to carry, so you can bring your entire library to a friend’s house. Plug it into their console, sign in, and access your stored games or move them over as needed. Setup is simple and straightforward, with plug-and-play functionality that requires minimal effort.

For gamers wrestling with limited storage, the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox offers a cost-effective way to expand capacity at just$140 for 5TB.
