We’re in a bit of a storage drought. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a large capacity internal to stick in your gaming PC, or just a humble external SSD to help take large files with you when you’re on the move. For the most part, memory and storage have all shot up to record heights this year thanks to those with financial interests in AI have been clearing out inventory. That’s why I’m surprised to find this SanDisk drive at a pretty reasonable level.
The SanDisk portable drive contains a full 1TB and is down to $130. Now, that’s now super low, but that’s not at the ridiculously high levels we’ve seen some of this stuff already go. It’s listed as normally selling for $151, so the 14% discount ends up taking off $21. If you’re in need of storage, it’s hard to say when or if we’ll ever return to the prices we were used to just a few years ago, but there is also a good chance this model won’t be lower than it is now for some time. Best grab it while the gettin’ is good.
Durable and Portable
SanDisk made this drive for portability—professionals who carry their work with them as opposed to relying on the cloud for everything. The casing engineered to keep its inner components safe. The face that it has no moving parts also adds to its durability, allowing it to withstand falls of up to two meters high without cause for worry. It it ever gets kicked off the top of your desk or accidentally tumbles out of your bag, your heart won’t have to skip a beat. There will be no cause for alarm.
The drive itself has solid performance. We’re working here with a a devices that can read and write at speeds of up to 600Mb/s. That’s about four times as fast as the old-school portable hard drives we had at one point relied on.
This portable SSD can connect to your computer or other compatible device over the practical and now standard USB-C. It is simple plug and play, letting you just pop it into your PC and start using it without having to reformat anything.
We’ve mentioned now a few times that this SSD is portable, but the pictures and my words do not do it justice. This thing is tiny. You can easily fit it into a pocket or a compartment already part of whatever bag or case you carry your laptop in.
