We’re still in a bit of a storage crisis, unfortunately, and probably will be for the foreseeable future. Big tech companies are investing heavily into RAM and storage drives as they continually build toward an AI data-center driven business model and that has inflated the prices dramatically in the consumer market. At the turn of 2026, we’ve seen prices skyrocket pretty much across the board. However, some have come back down in price, if only by just a bit.
Samsung’s line of T9 portable SSDs are a handy, external storage solution that regrettably are not an exception to this trend. It is, however, currently on sale with a price that’s a bit easier to swallow in this new market. The 1TB drive which reached a high of $287 has dropped down to just $200 for a limited time. Likewise, the 2TB model which reached a high of $575 is down to $440 and the 4TB model which hit a cap of $1,145 came down to $795.
Now these prices are still pretty ludicrous compared to their 2025 values (about $130 for 1TB, $200 for 2TB, and $300 for 4TB). The 2TB and 4TB especially are still pretty high, but all things considered, its not too big of a jump right now going for the 1TB. If you’re really in a bind and need some extra storage and can’t wait for the bubble to burst, now might be the best time to grab one, at least for the immediate future.
Built for Creators
For an external drive, the Samsung T9 SSD has some pretty fast read and write speeds. You can reach up to 2,000MB/s which can facilitate quick loading, editing, and transferring of data. This is nearly twice as fast as the prior model of solid state drives—the T7—and it’s more than 15 times faster than a standard external hard drive which often is capable of around 120MB/s. It’s a great option for creators like video editors working off the drive directly when putting a timeline of raw footage together.
The SSD is strong and stable, built for longevity. It’s able to withstand drops of up to 9.8 feet, helping it keep safe when traveling. It’s also enabled with password protection to keep your data safe in case it ever gets into the wrong hands. During extended use, the Samsung T9 SSD is still able to keep cool with its dynamic thermal guard which helps to prevent overheating. And you can keep it up to date with the latest firmware using the free Magician Software.
