Available for download on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2, this installment features Victor Wembanyama (Standard Edition), Caitlin Clark (Deluxe Edition), and Derrick Rose (Ultra Edition). This is a major milestone: by being featured in the Deluxe Edition, the Indiana Fever player becomes the first female player to appear alongside her male counterparts in a major edition during a global launch.

As for dunks, they now feature a new meter to add dynamism: the clearer the path, the higher the success rate. If a defender gets in the way, the dunk becomes much harder to execute with precision. Another notable addition is the increased number of badges, which now exceeds fifty.
Career Mode is undoubtedly the feature that will capture fans’ attention. Spanning a dozen chapters, it stars Vince Staples (rapper and actor) in a role designed to guide the player. Added to this is the brand-new MyCAREER mode, which offers a deep dive into five historic eras of the sport: Magic Johnson vs. Bird (1984), Michael Jordan (1991), Kobe Bryant (2003), LeBron James (2010), and Stephen Curry (2016). Each era features its own historically accurate rosters, rules, retro TV presentation, and even recreated locker rooms (complete with CRT TVs and wooden lockers for the older ones). You can literally join the Bulls in 1991 and run into a certain Michael Jordan on the cusp of his first triple-double.
NBA 2K27 doesn’t stop there. Career Mode now supports co-op play (the second player takes on the role of Trace Miller, and if they have to step away, the AI takes over) so you can experience NBA seasons like never before. The City is now co-ed and features new areas. Want more? MyNBA mode adds Legacy mode, letting you experience a virtual span of a century (yes, really), while cross-play is now compatible with the MyTeam auction house.
Is NBA 2K27 Free-to-play?
You cannot download NBA 2K27 for free. The game is available in three different editions: Standard (Victor Wembanyama), Deluxe (Caitlin Clark), and Ultra (Derrick Rose). Please note that the premium editions—Deluxe and Ultra—are digital-only and are not available on Nintendo Switch 2.

NBA 2K27 is leaving last-generation consoles behind. No more half-baked ports for PS4 and Xbox One: Visual Concepts is now focusing on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game still receives active support, and there are always plenty of players online, especially in The City mode, which is one of the most immersive. It’s the ideal version for anyone who wants the full package at a lower cost while waiting to eventually switch to NBA 2K27.
If you're more into recapturing the excitement of the spectacular matches from NBA Jam or NBA Street from the '90s and 2000s, NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 should be right up your alley. Released in October 2018, it’s the perfect counterpoint to NBA 2K27, offering 2-on-2 matches, gravity-defying dunks, and special moves that’ll blow your mind. The game features a collectible card system showcasing current players as well as legends like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, and can be played solo, locally, or online. There are even new modes for three-point contests, and the action is nonstop from start to finish.
The world of basketball isn’t as extensive as that of virtual soccer/football, but NBA 2K25 remains a very enjoyable installment.
