Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its Unpacked event, and preorders are open now at $1,200 for the 256GB unlocked model. That’s the base price without any deal applied, and there are several deals worth understanding before you decide where to buy, because the savings look very different depending on whether you’re trading in a device or carrying over a carrier plan.

The most aggressive instant discount is through Samsung. If you have an eligible trade-in, Samsung is offering up to $600 in instant credit toward the Z Flip 8, which brings the out-of-pocket cost to $600 before tax. For anyone without a trade-in, Samsung is also offering $150 in Samsung credit for preorders, which applies automatically.

The carrier-deal path goes further in total value: T-Mobile is offering up to $1,100 in bill credits over 36 months on an $85-per-month or higher plan with AutoPay and a qualifying trade-in (a Galaxy S25 gets you the full $1,100; a Galaxy S10 gets you $550). AT&T is offering up to $1,000 in credits over a 36-month installment plan on its Value 2.0 tier or higher, with a trade-in of a Galaxy S22+ or Z Flip4 or newer required, plus a $35 activation fee. Verizon’s offer tops out at $900 in bill credits over 36 months on the Unlimited Ultimate plan with a trade-in; upgrade customers need that trade-in device active on the account for at least 60 days prior. All three carrier deals require the phone to stay on the qualifying plan for the full term; credits stop if you downgrade or cancel.

Amazon Steps Up With $200

Amazon is running two Galaxy Z Flip 8 preorder configurations that work differently from the Samsung trade-in offers. The first is a $1,425 bundle that pairs the Z Flip 8 with Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 Pro and a $200 Amazon gift card, plus an additional $200 credit for your trade-in. The second is a $1,200 bundle: just the phone plus the $200 gift card and the extra $200 trade-in credit. The Buds4 Pro bundle throws in top-performing wireless earbuds that ordinarily retail for $250 on their own, so that spread narrows quickly if you were going to buy them anyway.

No Bad Choices Here

All paths from both Samsung and Amazon ultimately end in the same place: with a stellar top-of-the-line flip smartphone in your hands and money back in your pocket.

The Z Flip 8 is the eighth generation of Samsung’s clamshell foldable, and Samsung is billing it as the world’s lightest and thinnest flip phone. Under the hood it runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the same processor family Samsung is putting in its top-tier devices this cycle. The FlexWindow cover screen handles AI tasks and notifications without opening the phone, which is the main quality-of-life argument for the clamshell body beyond the size reduction. The Z Flip line has moved past the phase where the foldability was the most interesting thing about it; now the FlexWindow and the AI suite are doing more of the actual work.

The $1,200 price point positions the Z Flip 8 squarely against the top of the conventional flagship tier. It’s priced at or above most non-folding flagships, which is the usual trade-off. Whether that premium makes sense depends on how much you want a phone that fits in a palm or a jacket pocket in a way that no slab phone does. That’s always been the Z Flip’s specific argument, and the Z Flip 8 makes its case more strongly than any of its predecessors.
