It’s the end of the world as we know it in the latest trailer for Amazon’s hotly anticipated TV adaptation of the Fallout video game series. Developed by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan (the duo responsible for HBO’s Westworld), the show will follow vault dweller Lucy (Ella Purnell) as she makes her way out of her underground confines and into the wasteland above. The games have taken place all across America, including locales such as Washington D.C, Boston, and West Virginia, but the show is sticking close to the previously explored region of the Mojave Desert and expanding into Los Angeles.
Walton Goggins also stars as The Ghoul, who the trailer indicates has been around for a very long time. In contrast to Lucy’s bright-eyed naivete, he seems keen to the ways of the wasteland, haunted by his past, and weary of the state of things. They’ll make for an unlikely pair, but I reckon they’ll need each other’s help as they navigate L.A., the treacherous mutants that run amok there, and the various warring factions that currently occupy the region. Honestly, it surprises me how effectively this trailer sold me on the idea of a Fallout show, but I guess I’ll be seated and tuning in when it premieres on Amazon on April 11.
