The DJI Neo Mini Drone with 4K UHD Camera is DJI’s smallest and lightest drone, weighing 135 grams, which is less than most phones. That weight matters for more than portability, since anything under 249 grams doesn’t require FAA registration or Remote ID for recreational flying in the US. It takes off from the palm of your hand at the push of a button, and you don’t need a controller at all. The camera shoots 4K at 30fps with stabilization, and full-coverage propeller guards wrap around all four props. Flight time comes to about 18 minutes per battery.
Head over to Amazon to get the DJI Neo Mini Drone with 4K UHD Camera for just $139, down from its usual price of $199. That’s a $60 discount and 30% off.
A mini drone that’s perfect for both beginners and veterans
Most drones require a remote controller, a clear launch area, and a little time adjusting the sticks before you get something usable. The Neo does everything differently. You simply hold the device flat in your open palm, press the top button to select a capture mode, and the Neo takes off by itself. To bring it down, place your hand under the device and it will descend safely. The Neo requires no setup prior to use, and there’s nothing to learn before capturing photos and videos.
These different capture modes let the Neo operate independently. Follow lets you stay in frame while biking, skating, or walking. Dronie pulls the camera back and upward from the subject. Circle captures circular shots of the subject, Rocket captures the subject as it climbs upward, and Spotlight keeps the subject framed no matter where it moves.
The camera uses a 1/2-inch sensor and can record 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps. RockSteady stabilization provides smooth video images even when flying over bumpy terrain, and HorizonBalancing keeps the horizon line level in all captured footage. Photos can be taken at 12MP. Internal memory storage is approximately 22GB, which at 4K provides enough space for about 40 minutes of recorded content before you need to transfer the data.
The propellers are fully covered with protective guards, protecting all four. Those guards let you safely fly the Neo inside buildings and near people. In addition to protecting the propellers, the enclosed frame acts as a bumper, so you can bump into objects like doorframes and tree branches and keep capturing footage without damaging the drone. Wind resistance is rated at Level 4, so light outdoor wind isn’t a problem either.
If you’d rather have more control than the buttons give you, the DJI Fly app connects over Wi-Fi with virtual joysticks, and the Neo also works with DJI’s remote controllers, RC Motion, and Goggles. The DJI Neo Mini Drone with 4K UHD Camera is $139 right now instead of $199, and you have to download the app from DJI’s website rather than the Play Store on Android.
