DJI Mini 4K Drone Quietly Drops to Record Low, Shoot Aerial Footage for the Price of a Budget Gimbal Stabilizer

If you're interested in getting into drones, this discount is for you.

The DJI Mini 4K is the drone almost everyone recommends when a friend asks what to buy without going broke. It weighs under 249 grams, which sidesteps FAA registration, and includes a three-axis mechanical gimbal that produces footage worth keeping. Plus, the price is low enough that an unexpected crash won’t set you back too much. The kit ships with one battery, a phone-based controller, a charging cable, spare propellers, and a screwdriver.

Go to Amazon to buy the DJI Mini 4K Drone for $209, down from its usual price of $299. That’s a $90 discount and 30% off.

A drone perfect for both skilled and casual users

The three-axis gimbal is the reason the Mini 4K produces footage that looks nothing like the output of a sub-$200 Amazon drone. A gimbal is a set of tiny motors that counteract the drone’s movement along pitch, roll, and yaw in real time, keeping the camera pointed where you aimed it regardless of how the airframe tilts. Cheaper drones fake this in software by cropping and warping the frame after capture, which sacrifices resolution and introduces a jelly effect during quick moves. Mini 4K footage stays smooth through gusts and sharp turns.

The remote control’s transmission range can reach up to 10 kilometers with DJI’s O2 Omnidirectional transmission technology. This distance is almost unbelievable, considering that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules require all drone operations to maintain a line-of-sight view of the aircraft. However, the advantage is reliable connectivity without frequent signal loss or delays.

The Mini 4K can fly for 31 minutes on one charge in calm weather, which equates to approximately 22-25 minutes of actual airtime once you account for return-to-home and wind resistance. The brushless motors enable the drone to maintain stability and keep flying in winds up to 24 mph. The motor allows it to reach altitudes of up to 13,000 feet, and the GPS Auto Return is initiated either when the battery runs low or when the signal sent back to the controller is lost.

Intelligent flight modes handle the cinematography so a first-time pilot doesn’t have to. QuickShots runs pre-programmed maneuvers like Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, and Boomerang that frame a subject and execute a move with one tap. The Panorama function shoots and stitches ultra-wide aerials, and the digital zoom reaches 2x at 4K, 3x at 2.7K, and 4x at 1080p for keeping distance from wildlife and cliff edges.

The DJI Mini 4K is on sale for $209 instead of the usual $299. The real comparison isn’t DJI’s Mini 3 or Air 3 but the crowd of no-name quadcopters that clutter Amazon’s drone category, most of which ship with plastic motors, no gimbal, and a camera that captures footage unsuitable for anything past a group text. At this price, the Mini 4K is the floor of what a real drone costs.
