How does a series known for the twisted psychological horror of its single-player campaign translate into a free-to-play online shooter? We're gonna find out soon enough, as Aeria Games reveals F.E.A.R. Online.
There's safety in numbers. That's always been the problem with trying to do multiplayer horror, and I've a feeling it'll be an issue here as well. After all, we can't all be forced to impregnate a psychic ghost all at once, right?
Developed by Korea's Inplay Interactive, F.E.A.R. Online is a combination of pure online multiplayer against somewhat evil things, and cooperative scenarios that run parallel to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, giving players fresh insight into the struggle against poor unfortunate Alma Wade, the spookiest ghost we know.
Who knows? This could be a fine addition to the franchise, building up the lore established in the series proper while giving the multiplayer fans plenty of ways to shoot eachother senseless. Or the scariest thing about F.E.A.R. Online will be F.E.A.R. Online itself. One of those.
Interested PC parties can sign up for the closed beta for F.E.A.R. Online at the game's official website.
