Nothing near final hardware has ever been delivered to a developer 3 years ahead of launch in video game history, I don't believe. The PowerMac-based dev kits hadn't even been rolled out to 360 developers by this point prior to the 360's launch yet. Read more

I'm glad at least that it's becoming generally accepted that the actual amount of cost-effectively harnessable power in the 360 and the PS3 is virtually identical, and that to get significantly more power out of one or the other requires too much in the way of human resources to be practical and/or profitable. There's nothing wrong with shooters, but I like more variety than that. This trend towards "me too" retail releases is a big part of why I've switched to indie games.
