Way more writing in Pillars, and more narrative commitment to the characters and world, where Divinity is a lot more tongue-in-cheek. Stray observation: Far Cry 4 does "exploded vehicle flying through the air" better than pretty much any other game.
At certain points you have to trigger the night to advance the story. You could theoretically clear almost all of the sidequests on the second day, though, which would unlock a bunch of defensive upgrades and make subsequent night missions easier to deal with. Read more
