Thing about Amano's design is that they were from a different time, it was for consoles that couldn't translate them. No FF game ever ends up looking like this, they're just imagined like this.

Remember that right before the last fights in the game cloud says "Let's mosey". Cloud wasn't a sad dark character in 7, he was your typical JRPG hero of the time. Yeah that's one thing that frequently annoys me. In FF7 the clothes your characters and the clothes NPCs wore weren't so far from each other. In X your characters bought their clothes for Halloween and the NPCs got them from the soviet republic. Read more
