I make videos for Kotaku. I make video games for myself and my friends. I like writing fiction. Someday I will publish a novel. Who knows!

One more comment re: “Roseanne”: when I first went to England, an English man “had a laugh” with me by trying to imitate my “American Accent”. “I love your accent, mate, you sound like you’re on that show ‘Roseanne’.” I said, “I don’t have an accent,” and he said, “No, I don’t have an accent.” We were both right; we Read more

1. I don’t mean it’s literally like Seinfeld; as I say, I coined the phrase “The Seinfeld of Games” around the time people were endlessly debating “The Citizen Kane of Games”. I meant it as a thought experiment—the sort of game I’d prefer to a Citizen Kane, and also a game that would probably be better: I just wanted Read more

Ah, yeah, I am not a fan of it. They should have used Apple Kid, which is a free font based on the Earthbound font. It’s the font we used for the English versions of Dandy Dungeon and Million Onion Hotel (disclosure: I worked on those games so don’t buy them) Read more

In English, Barret says he got an artificial arm. In Japanese, he says no such thing. I investigated a little bit and tried to explain why it might have gotten translated that way. I think the video is pretty good and if you wanna watch it that’s cool. If you don’t, oh well! Read more

I would love to get into Persona 5, though I’m afraid that series would never end. Here’s a playlist of stream archives of me playing the first 20 hours or so of the game with the Japanese voiceover on (I remark quite a bit on the subtitles, which is what gave me the idea to do this particular series . . .) !! Hmm, I’m not going to comment on the rest of your post because the internet has a tendency to take almost any comment about anything out of context, though I want to point out that Kotaku does not ever use the phrase “You Won’t Believe” in headlines. You might be thinking of a bunch of other websites. Read more

“It’s almost as if someone didn’t watch any of the videos, made assumptions about the content of the series based purely on the most superficial of contexts, and then decided “Hey!”” Read more

Hmm, yeah, I covered that in a previous episode of this series. It was a line that a lot of people had asked me to cover, so I covered it. My coverage of it was essentially“Yes, it’s a typo; who cares.” I think you may misunderstand the nature of this series. :-( Read more

Well, I am of the mind that the majority of them are references to Sephiroth (many people mention the “1" tattoo on the back of his hand!) though let’s put it this way: whether they’re talking about Sephiroth or the clones, our heroes never fail to respond to them as though they’re definitely talking about Sephiroth . lol as i explained in another comment, i was playing on my second account, with the intention of returning to my in-progress save on my other account immediately after finishing the video! Read more

Aw, man, I love the characters. They remind me so much of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Oracle of Ages, and Oracle of Seasons. Also, of the Japan-only game For The Frog The Bell Tolls, also by the Link’s Awakening team for Nintendo. I think that’s actually what the developers were going for (I base this on the fact that Read more

I agree that it’s not easy to design a Good Zelda Dungeon, though I’d argue that a Half-Decent Zelda Dungeon is better than 90% of Action Game Level Design! Just a chain of rooms which vary the pace between “good brisk battle-fighting” and “busywork puzzly action room” from room to room is good enough for me. As I Read more

That’s what I was going for, so thanks for chillin w me Read more

Yes! Lufia II is a masterpiece. Even the dungeons late in the game that completely glitch out lol Read more

Oh yeah, it’s $14.99 and it downloads in about two seconds. I can understand why the publishers didn’t want to go through the excruciating process of publishing a physical version! Read more

I can’t imagine being a kid today, with the new Mortal Kombat games. When I was a teenager, we totally saw through Mortal Kombat: it was slapsticky nonsense and we loved it. The fatalities nowadays are like, I can imagine the planning team sitting around being like, “So how about one where you hit someone in the Read more

It made you *want* to, though did you ever actually *do* it? That’s the important question here Read more
