Smart plugs make it incredibly easy to control regular appliances via smartphone or a voice assistant. These tiny gadgets make the most boring stuff (lights, coffee machine, fans) smarter, so managing things around the home becomes a lot more convenient.
Surprisingly, smart plugs are quite affordable. Most options sit under $30, but we just found a way to grab one for even less. Amazon is now offering a nice 20% discount on its smart plug, dropping its $25 price to $20. A pack of two costs $36 (originally $50), and a 4-pack bundle is going for $75, down from $100.
These deals are selling out fast, though, so we recommend placing your orders quickly.
Easy to set up
Setting the thing up is easier than it sounds. Simply plug in your smart plug into any standard wall outlet and open the Alexa app. Tap the Device icon, and select “+” to proceed. You can now plug a compatible appliance in and ask Alexa to turn it on. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, and you’ll have an intelligent setup ready in no time.
Once an appliance/device is connected, you can use the smartphone app to manage it, or rely on Alexa to get things done for you. You can also create routines to simplify the tasks that you do almost every day, such as preparing coffee or turning on a lamp at a specific time. For instance, if your morning involves turning on the fan in the living room and preparing coffee, you can connect both to smart plugs and create a routine that turns the ttwo on at the same time. You could be stretching in bed while your coffee gets ready in the kitchen!
This convenience also comes in handy when you’re away from home. You can use the Alexa app to control lights, and even make it look like you’re inside when you’re actually far away. As for compatibility, it plays nicely with a wide range of lamps, fans, coffee makers, and other household devices, as long as they have a physical on/off switch.
The current offer lets you pick a smart plug (or a few of them) without paying the full price. A single Amazon smart plug is currently going for just $20, and picking a few in a bundle drops the price of each even more. But as we mentioned above, the offers are selling out fast. It’s best to snap yours up before it’s too late.
