The Blink Outdoor 4 is the fourth-generation wireless outdoor security camera from Amazon-owned Blink, with 1080p HD video, enhanced color night vision, a 143-degree field of view, and weather-resistant construction. The camera runs on two AA lithium batteries that Blink rates for up to two years of typical use before requiring replacement. Two-way audio, motion detection with customizable zones, and Alexa integration come standard. Person Detection is a separate feature that requires the optional Blink Subscription Plan to enable.

You can get the Blink Outdoor 4 for $38 on Amazon right now, which is $32 off the $70 list price or a discount of about 46%.

An efficient and reliable outdoor security camera

The biggest advantage of this model over the last generation is image quality. The improved sensor pulls more detail from low-light conditions and provides color night-vision footage instead of the usual monochrome. The wide-angle lens on this model lets the camera capture a 143-degree field of view. So, you get a broader view of your property compared to the last model.

The camera uses a passive infrared sensor to trigger recording when motion is detected in the frame. You can use the Blink Home Monitor app on iOS or Android to adjust the sensitivity, set activity zones to ignore specific areas of the frame, and configure retrigger timing between consecutive recordings. With the Blink Subscription Plan, you also get Person Detection, which filters notifications to alert you only when human movement is detected rather than every passing car, animal, or branch.

Two-way audio operates through the same app and works over Wi-Fi or cellular data. You can speak and listen through the camera from anywhere with an internet connection, useful for communicating with delivery drivers, guests at the property, or family members at home. Live View also runs on demand from the app and through any Alexa-enabled device with a screen.

The wireless design is what makes Blink different from a traditional wired security camera. No electrical work is required to install the unit, and the two AA lithium batteries last long enough that battery management becomes a once-every-couple-of-years task. The IP65 weather rating allows for installation outdoors in heavy rain, snow, and temperatures ranging from -4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit.

A Sync Module 2 is required for the Outdoor 4 to function and is sold separately if you don’t already own one. The Sync Module connects up to 10 Blink cameras to your home Wi-Fi network and supports optional local storage on a USB drive if you’d rather avoid a cloud subscription for recording.

The Blink Outdoor 4 normally retails for $70, but you can get it on Amazon now for only $38. At nearly half off, picking up two or three units to cover the front entry, back door, and driveway becomes a reasonable approach to property coverage, rather than relying on a single camera at the front of the house.
