For Apple users, if you even misplace your iPhone or leave it behind at a restaurant or in a taxi cab, there’s an intuitive way for you to track it down. Using the Find My app, you can figure out its precise location, turning what could have been a major freakout into just a minor inconvenience.
An Apple AirTag extends that functionality to, well, pretty much anything. You can stick one of these into a wallet or in your backpack so you can know where it is at all times.
If your item carrying one of the Apple AirTags ever goes missing, you can use your iPhone, Apple Watch, or MacBook to located to item. If it’s nearby, like you know your wallet is somewhere in your apartment, but can’t remember which draw your stuck it in or if its sitting under some pile of clothing, you can use the Find My app to ping it. This will activate a speaker that is built into the Apple AirTag, ringing and distinctive chime so you can easily locate it from sound alone.
If your item goes missing out there in the world and not just the comfort of your home, you can choose to share the time location, temporarily giving access to trusted contacts, third parties, or over 50 airline partners.
Each Apple AirTag runs on a battery. These last for more than a year each. When it’s running low, your iPhone can alert you that it’s time to replace.
