After a five year run, Apple finally went ahead and put out a follow-up model to its popular over-ear headphones. The Apple AirPods Max 2 entered the playing field just a few short months ago, and it’s already seeing some pretty significant deals. For anyone who decided to patiently wait for the price to go down after the unveiling of the second generation model back in April, now is the time to reap the rewards. Amazon has the Apple AirPods Max 2 now going for $100 off. These headphones first released with a retail price of $549, but the 18% discount has taken the price down to just $449 for a limited time.
Improvements to the Apple AirPods Max 2
On the surface, this new model of the Apple AirPods Max look almost identical to previous iteration. Most of the changes are happening under the hood.
Maybe the most significant improvement comes with the inclusion of the H2 chip set, replacing the H1. The new processor allows for as much as a 50% boost to the ability of the active noise cancellation present on the headphones. You’ll find it does a better job of silencing unwanted environmental sounds from your surroundings, letting you focus on your audio without any distraction.
The noise cancellation also sees improvement with the addition of Adaptive Audio. This now enables the AirPods Max 2 to be able to adjust the level of ANC applied based on your surroundings. This happens passively on its own. The headphones also now support Conversation Detection. They can tell when you’ve struck up a conversation with someone and will automatically lower the volume of your music or other audio source while also enabling transparency mode so you can clearly hear the individual you’re speaking with. It’s a perfect function for waiting in line at a coffee shop in the morning on your way to work.
The headphones now also support USB-C instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning port. Later models of the first gen version did make the switch around the time the iPhone shifted to USB-C, but the Max 2 support the new standard from the jump. You can also enjoy lossless listening at 24-bit/48kHz when connected to your audio source over USB-C.
Apple has its AirPods Max 2 available in five different colors—some flashy, others more straightforward. I’m particularly fond of the peachy orange colorway. There is also midnight, blue, purple, and starlight. The good news is all five options have been marked down with the same $100 discount. That means you can pick whichever color you most prefer and still know you’re getting the best deal.
