The Bard's Tale is Coming to iOS

Every time I tell people how much I loved Deathspank, they say the same thing: "You should play The Bard's Tale!" And I tell them, "I know! I remember when the 2004 version came out, but I didn't really get a chance to play it."

Great story, right? Anyway, my point is that finally, I will have a new response for those people. I can tell them: "I know! I'm playing it on my iPad right now, and it is hilarious!"

InXile Entertainment has announced a new port of the game for iOS devices. Their press materials claim that it will be the biggest iOS game ever made, clocking in at 1.7GB. That is a pretty hefty iPad game.

All the loot, action, reactive NPCs, and Cary Elwes voice-acting will translate over to the mobile devices, along with a "custom-redesigned user-interface for touch control." And there lies the only possible rub, given that The Bard's Tale is a Fable-esque action RPG and will require it controls to be fairly precise. Or at least, not totally suck. It will also feature "optional in-app purchases" that will allow you to pump up your character and save time. Hmm.

The game will be available next week, and I'm going to have a chance to try it out soon, so I'll report back on how it is. Fair warning—any game that advertises having "more song & dance numbers than any other game, including a zombie dance-off" is starting on pretty good footing with me.
