What Game Has The Best Original Soundtrack?

Most of gaming greatest titles have one thing in common - a fantastic musical score. But with so many classic melodies and signature tracks it can be hard for fans to pin down just which game has the best overall soundtrack.

As anyone who knows me can attest, I am a huge fan of the Donkey Kong Country series. Especially the original trilogy for the Super Nintendo that launched in the mid ‘90s. Even though I controversially feel that Donkey Kong Country 3 is the greatest of the trio there’s no denying that Diddy’s Kong Quest, the second of the bunch, has the best soundtrack. Possibly the best soundtrack of all time in my book.

The tune most folks know from DKC2 is the alluring “Sticker Bush Symphony”, a track ironically chill for its tendency to show up in tough-as-nails barrel blasting levels.

Whew. If that doesn’t make your insides melt, I’m not sure what will. Two more stellar tracks stand out in my mind as the cream of the crop in Diddy’s Kong Quest - Forest Interlude and Mining Melancholy. Both are below.

Smooth.

Runner-ups include Journey, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: The Wind Waker, Katamari Damacy, and Animal Crossing New Leaf. Obviously this is just my preference, so feel free to share your own nomination for best gaming soundtrack in the comments below. Be sure to include your favorite track(s) if possible.
