UPDATE - Despite early morning confirmations from a representative from Capcom Japan that the trailer posted above was being shown in the company's closed theatre at the Tokyo Game Show, sources have since told us that this trailer is not real.
Sorry for any confusion. We've left the rest of the original story intact... for history!
Contacted for further information, however, representatives from Capcom USA later informed Kotaku that they "could not comment on rumours or speculation". Those "rumors" being the trailer in question.
As this discrepency casts doubt on the legitimacy of the clip, we have updated the story's headline and content accordingly. Apologies for any confusion caused!
The above clip was apparently shown today at Capcom's TGS theater, which is running trailers for all its upcoming games.
It opened with the Resident Evil (née "Biohazard" in Japan) 15th anniversary logo, before showing the Capcom logo on the screen.
On a black screen, the following words appeared: "The world has seen all kinds of horror... Bio-organic weapons have taken over."
A spinning blue earth appeared on screen.
"And one place has the key to stop it all," read the next title card. An image appeared on the screen momentarily. It looked like some sort of lab or industrial area.
"The world has seen all kinds of horror... Bio-organic weapons have taken over."
On the final title card, the following numbers appeared: 48.415802,-89.2673.
The camera pans up through what looked like falling debris to the Resident Evil 6 logo.
Back in 2009, it was mentioned that the inevitable Resident Evil 6 was going to be a complete reboot.
Apparently, Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi is not helming the sequel.
In fall 2010, former Capcom producer Keiji Inafune said there would be news about RE6 "shortly".
