New Age of Conan Videos Show Braless Demons

Age of Conan is going after World of Warcraft in the MMO space. It's also a vehicle for getting those hot babes Roy Thomas drew in Savage Sword of Conan into 3D animation. Seriously, the Conan franchise's sensuous representation of bodies in combat is absolutely one of its drawing cards, acknowledged or not. So developer Funcom has gone to it with gusto, looks like.

GamesRadar has two videos up of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, which releases for the PC on May 20. It's due for Xbox 360 sometime by September. The first shows combat and the character classes, with some dry narration about succubus boobies and a not-really apology if anyone's offended. The second covers the dungeon crawl.

Edit: I tried to embed these but it dint work the thang's broked stupid embed code etc. Best to just visit the GamesRadar site. They're still pretty slick to watch.

  • Videos aren't showing for me, only white boxes.

Dying for this game on 360, though.

  • They're so white they blind the camera... must be English.

  • @karasu is my homeboy: Same here, guess I'll check back later.

  • Where's the boobies? :o

  • Colder (and whiter) than a witch's nipple obviously.

  • GamesRadar probably has embedding disabled or somesuch. If you go right to the page that's linked in the article, you'll get yer videos.

I guess GameRadar doesn't allow links or something because the video works when you visit their site (Kinda anti-internet behavior if you ask me :\).

I would love to try this MMO but the hell if I'm going to pay $15 a month to play a game I already bought for $60 bucks. MMOs are doing it wrong Make the core game cheap and then make it a $5 monthly charge. Trying to follow this silly Blizzard formula is just suicide. ...baby steps people, baby steps!

  • And for those of you wanting ta-tas--you can't see them; the video's far too small and the player handling the camera doesn't zoom in at all. The only way you'll know she's doing the twin peaks pointing combo is because the narrator tells you so.

  • Man, even more reason for a large amount of WoW players to join, mainly the ones who touch themselves to Night-Elf dancing.

    The graphics are impressive. Hee.

  • I like how the announcer says "This is an M rated game so we didn't give her a bra, Sorry if you are offended"

    BOOBIES FTW KTHX.

  • Silly Blizzard forumla? You know that MMORPG's have been around for about 12 years and that they have always followed a monthly subscription format don't you? At least the Western ones do.

No monthly income = no development and poor or absent support.

AoC isn't very good anyway and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends, so you're not missing much.

  • had a quick go at the beta on a friends PC, the combat is pretty cool, and the character editor allows you to create some great looking characters

  • Image of okenny :) okenny :) at 02:26 PM on 05/10/08 *

Man that game looks good :( Will to resist breaking...

  • I'm in the beta for this and one of the summons you can get is this babe. Unfortunaly, due to client issues and machine issues it doesn't look like much.

  • "This is a mature game, so we didn't put a bra on her"...oh yes, excellent reasoning. :(

  • @Yuki:
Makes sense to me, especially for a European-designed game.

    Boobies =/= evil.

  • That dungeon looked horribly dull. It reminded me of Morrowind. Plus, throwing in lowest common denominator content like topless Succubi is a sure fire way of injuring the industry as a whole. Sure, sex and sexual content has it's place in games just as it does in films and most other media, but this is blatant peddling.

  • It's a succubus. It's supposed to be sexy, though.

  • @The_Foo: Making her braless JUST because it is a mature rated game is not sound reasoning.

@Mustakrakish: This is more logical reasoning. This is not the reasoning he used.

  • Nothing new, God of War has been showing demon nipples for years. In GOW II they wanted to give the cyclops wangs, but that would had never been allowed to be rated M, so they didn't

  • @ban_hammer:
Just call them front tails and be done with it.

  • Image of okenny :) okenny :) at 02:48 PM on 05/10/08 *

@Yuki: It's male reasoning (not that I object... I'm male after all). I do cringe every time they (the developers) are in interviews and they go talking about "The Conan Universe" and talk about it being mature in terms of gore and the objectification of woman. My guess is that the marketing team may have given up selling this to women as they're demonstrating less tact these days but if you consider their market, it's pretty obvious why. It's nothing to be proud of though, it's just "hard", cold reality.

  • The game is gonna be 49.99 not 59.99 also the game is sooooo addictive and the game is being sold to ADULTS only so no need to be causouse or kind on videos of in game action. I have my Guide, Game and 30 day card already payed off and I have also been playing the BETA for sometime now. I feel bad for all my GTA friends that say that I never log in to play some GTA but AoC is a much better game for "ME" and I love how the controls are. This is a MMO game now a single player game though you could go through the game alone but if that's the case don't bother since you'll be defeating the point of buying any MMORPG. Here's the link to the US price of AoC: [www.gamestop.com]

  • I've got a 8800GTS and 3gigs of ram and the beta chugs along on my PC... I'm hoping thats a beta problem, I like what I've messed around with so far.

  • I like the fighting system in the game, I`m dying to play this game, cause i love the age of conan books. All in all it seems a big improvement in MMORPG`s, cause it feels allot more realistic then most considering its fantasy background :D

  • Image of okenny :) okenny :) at 02:58 PM on 05/10/08 *

    @belo: what about your PC?

  • Image of okenny :) okenny :) at 02:59 PM on 05/10/08 *

    @okenny :): processor that is ^_^;

  • Roy Thomas is the man, but he didn't draw Conan. The artist I associate w/the 1970's Conan is the mighty John Buscema!

  • So the warlock has a succubus pet...come on. Blatant ripoff much? They couldn't think of a different demon?

  • There's a reason why WoW has my allegiance, and it's the fact that I'll likely never have to substantially upgrade my PC to run it (it's not necessarily WoW itself). I know nothing pisses off PC aficionados more than this mentality, but for an MMO to be truly successful these days you have to cater to assholes like me. I'm sorry we're holding the rest of you back, but unfortunately that's just the way it has to be if you're looking at a substantial share of the pie.

  • @argh: It's not a ripoff if that's the tradition. Which, let's face it, it is. You could just as well accuses whatever game you're trying to defend of ripping off fantasy literature for the last few hundred years.

  • @okenny :): Have you read any of the original Conan stuff? Gore and objectification of women are par for the course, not pandering to a specific market.

  • @futurebiblehero:

in all honesty it's like that with all PC games not just MMO's. Because games have to include the lower ends of the technology in mind when making their game, pc games will never reach their full potential and still be commercial successes.

This game seems pretty cool. I'm currently playing the beta. It's not running very well on my computer though (only an amd 3500 single core, 2 gig ram and a 7800 GTX =(). It's been quite a while since I've upgraded my pc but honestly I have so little time for games that I don't even really play them much on my pc anymore.

I haven't really figured out the whole attacking from different directions and if it really makes a difference (for me so far I've just been hitting them someone randomly but I'm also a ranger so I'm generally using my bow) but I'm curious how things would play out if I was playing a melee class.

Either way I'm holding off for warhammer.

  • Image of okenny :) okenny :) at 04:55 PM on 05/10/08 *

@ninjafetus: I know, (No I haven't read it, I've just heard about it) I'm just highlighting that there isn't much the developers can do to justify those things but to retreat to the canon. I was implying that they might not have to do that if they use more tact in what they show and say but then again, that wouldn't market to the demographics they are targeting. It's strange, it's funny, and hate to totally be dismissive of it but it is in fact the reality. I know I'm a bad person for thinking the boob-demon is fucking hot; this is I side I don't want the women in my life to know about :(

  • Must... bed... wenches!

  • As a beta tester, I can tell you guys that AoC is average(borderline crap) and a very overhyped game. It won't even make a small dent in WoW.

  • Roy Thomas wrote Conan stories for Marvel. He's not an artist.

  • Hahaha
"We didn't put a bra on her. This is a mature game so,.. sorry if you're offended."

  • I saw either these same videos or ones like them on YouTube before this.

I was in the PVP beta and I thought AOC lives up to the hype, is way more interesting than WOW, and has no more technical issues than LOTRO.

Alot of the people who were having technical issues had older PCs and they were trying to force the game to run on hardware that can't handle it.

    href="#c5634610">Spiraltribesman:
It isn't lowest common denominator, it is based on the Conan the Barbarian books which itself is based on actual history.

Succubus have historically been depicted as topless.

I think it would have been extremely lame to tone down Conan for a T rating and politically correct. If they do that they may as well call him Conan the Metrosexual then.

  • Hahahahaha.

"Can I say shit on camera? Who cares, this isn't the US"

Even if the game sucks, I can say I like the guy who was giving that presentation. :)

  • Uh, Roy Thomas didn't draw Conan, he wrote the stories (or adapted the originals).

  • @relic1980:

The original Conan stories were a book written by Robet E. Howard , Roy Thomas adapted Conan to the comic and made the Illustrations for it, not many people specially the young ones knows that.

  • @futurebiblehero:

That, more than anything, is key to WoW's success. They set the hardware bar very low and haven't moved it. That has been key in keeping subscriptions over time and getting subscriptions in less affluent markets that can't upgrade every other year (or more often).

But, in order to make it work, they had to have brilliant art direction to pull off the low poly count in style -- Warcraft's cartoony style and great (if not high on originality) art staff pulled it off.

  • Who gives a shit if this dents wow.. or has a higher PC req etc

I'm pumped to play something aimed at 18+ with a bit of something different going on.

  • Hmm, this is not at all what I've been expecting.

I was expecting it to be real time combat, where one mistake could mean a beheading or getting your arm chopped off. That's the impression I've been getting from the devs this whole time. Real-Time, cutthroat combat.

Instead, it looks like we'll be getting a battle system the same as all the others with HP and all, but with a tacky/annoying attack system (no targeting in a MMO?) and fancy finishing moves (if that!).

I was really hoping I'd be able to chop through minions, to behead players on the first blow due to them not knowing how to block well enough, etc...

Imo, this game now looks "meh".

P.S. Note the IMO on the above line.

  • non-targeting combat in an mmo really does sound like a revolution, one ushered in by the original ultima.

  • @Coquiton:

I wasn't in the beta but many players complained about the same thing, despite the pretty graphics it seems to be a generic MMO

  • I can tell you right now that this is as promising as Vanguard.

After leaving WoW two years, I haven't touched any MMO.

Seeing how I was randomly chosen from a affiliated website back in the day in a beta
