Details are very sketchy, but SCEE and Nissan just announced the GT Racing Academy, which will give gamers a chance to show if they can drive in real life like they do in Gran Turismo. Every step of the academy will be filmed and later made available on the Playstation Network.
It sounds like it's connected to a contest that will give two luck people a four-month, real-life racing tutorial and then have them participate in the Dubai 24-hour race in January.
The vids will hit starting the PSN on May 23rd.

Wow, that sounds awesome. Wish I was actually good at the game, damn S-Class is impossible for me.
That is incredible!
Not to mention a spot in an endurance race!.
What I wouldn't give for Colin to give me a chance to absolutely own the gravels.
This sounds pretty awesome, but since I'm not exactly an expert GT driver (I occasionally use the walls to my advantage) i don't think they'd let me drive a real $1,000,000+ car.
i can dream tho.
Sounds like it's Euro-only. Americans rarely get some of this kind of stuff...
The spirit of it is lovely and all, but the practicalities of giving away a couple spots in something where the winners could kill people if they mess up... wow.
So will car damage be on or off?
That is pretty pimp.
So basically the course has nothing to do with the videogame.
@Moonshadow101: well thats the whole point of the months of training. I'm sure they won't let them compete if they are a hazard to themselves.
@GhaleonUnlimited: the game is a facilitator for the course and I wouldn't be surprised if they gave the participants a copy of GT with the tracks they'll be on in real life so that they can get a feel for the track layout
sounds epic, but probably euro only though. They typically get all the cool stuff.
If the videos are out in May, that means the winners have already been picked.
Damn.
... not that I really stood a chance.
Man, that's brilliant marketing. Real pros have admitted to using GT to train for real races. If these two amateurs could do reasonably well playing GT and training, it would be a huge selling point for all those day-dreaming wannabe racers.
Time to invest in a logitech wheel, and racing seat!
What can I say... that's just awesome.
with the incredibly poor collision detection in GT5:Prologue, I doubt that many real pros could use it for much. Although the graphics are nice, the game lacks in so many areas (ramming penalties when you get rammed, collision penalties that only apply to you, short-cut penalties when you get pushed slightly off the track, and not even in the direction of the flow, etc.) plus such absurd challenges as starting in 16th place and passing the entire field in one lap at Suzuka, this game screams lack of realism and focus at every turn. In many ways, Forza II is better, and, if GT5 retail is anything like Prologue, it would not have been worth the wait. I am certainly glad that I didn't buy Prologue.
@bornonce: Yes, because "real pros" need to figure out exactly how much of a burning wreck bumping into another car or the wall would do at 150+ mph; it is, in fact, crucial to a pro's training regimen as opposed to, say, track layout and vehicle handling.
Heresy, I say! Let's turn off all the driving assists by default and actually require that you ace all the license tests before letting you onto the track!
Oh no, Jack Thompson better not get any memo's about this!
Next you know, we'll see reports on Fox News with their newest "Virtual Vehicular Manslaughter Expert" about how games are training wheelmen for their arms dealing and drug peddling!
I kid on all that =) This seems like a lovely idea.
That screen looks nice
Never been a big GT fan, but I would give many, many of your American dollars to take part in this.
Especially if they let me drive, say, a 370Z.
Lucky bastards.
Where do I sign up?!!!
What if I want to drive a Mazda?
