Turbine is celebrating the first anniversary of the Lord of the Rings Online as previously mentioned, and they're giving lapsed players a chance to come back and see what's changed since they bucked up and kicked the hobbit (so ashamed of myself). Between now and May 12th, players who have cancelled their account may log back in for free, spend several hours patching, and then experience the new features they've missed out on, such as...
* New Region - Explore the icy reaches of ForochelAll of this, plus they added more cowbell. What more do you people want?
* New Quests - Over 100 new quests
* Hobby System - Feel like going fishing?
* Enhanced Monsterplay - New monster class: the Orc Defiler
* Looking For Fellowship Enhancements - Mustering Horns and UI improvements
* More customization options - cosmetic clothing, traveling clothes, and barbershops!
* New PvMP dungeon - The Delving of Frór
* Return to Angmar - completely overhauled to enhance playability and fun

I tried to get into this game. I just couldn't do it. MMO's are boring to me right now.
Well I am about to pay for founders, but will take advantage of this as well since I haven't started my LOTRO account yet.
This game was a lot of fun when I played it back in beta, and with the constant update along with founders it is a pretty good deal. If you like MMO's that is.
Plus the Mines of Moria (packages expansion) should be out in the fall.
I can't remember my login for the life of me. It was almost two years ago.
Can someone explain how founders work for me?
I'm planning to sign up for the lifetime thing, and I want to get the most out of it.
Well.. the image quality is good, and the gameplay could be fun. The download will be small. Sounds like a good fun, my warg will make a small return ;-D. Hope this new PvPM dungeon has more than ONE ambush point (crossroads).
NO way, it has only been one year?. My god, what?.
I played this game for a while. I just got completely bored with it after lvl 40.
I didn't really like any of the classes that much either.
Before I left alot more people were joining and some of the same kind of jerks from WOW were starting to show up. There were spambots spamming gold and powerleveling sites all the time in Bree.
It is not a bad mmorpg it just wasn't for me.
@Truvill: If you pay for the founders account, you'll be able to play from now till the servers close without paying the normal monthly fee.
However, you'll still have to buy expansion packs when they are released.
@der13manner:
Thanks, and the expansion packs are not at all a problem for me.
If you don't care for MMOs, this one definitely won't change your mind - LOTRO is about as traditional as they come. However, there is less of an emphasis on power-leveling and "raiding for loot", so the worst of the WoW emigrants leave quickly after posting their salty "goodbyes" in the forums. This is a game for people who find the world of an MMO, its scenery and quests and music, more interesting than the armor or weapons their characters equip.
I like LOTRO and I have a Lifetime Membership. But this one gets me:
"Hobby System - Feel like going fishing?"
As if the idea of pretend-fishing is going to entice me back. How about I go real fishing instead if I want to fish?
@NullsRevenge: On the note of the gold farmer spamming, they've got that amazingly under control, and it's now extremely rare to get a tell from a Level 1 guy about their stupid gold site. The most I've had was about 2 weeks ago where some guy was shouting in some area about it, and that was it.
Lifetime membership is great, and takes a lot of retarded stress out of gaming.
I'm a Mac user and couldn't bring myself to try WoW. I think the LotR world could get me interested in trying an MMO, but, alas, no Mac version.
Back to the consoles for me.
@Chef: Yeah, Turbine seens to control this stuff quite well. I play DDO and rarely receive these spam messages.
Im on the same boat as Sustenance. Theres nothing new here, though from a design standpoint, the world is truly marvelous.
@Lider: Could it be that it's because no one plays DDO? They only have four servers left..
DDO is a bit of a heartbreaker; it had some really nice elements combined with terrible ones. Sigh.
As for LotRO, I might give it another try if they ever fix MPvP. I see no sign of that, so... eh.
There's something really thrilling about playing a spider, crawling around, or a worg... but that's about the only part of the game that really got me going.
What's DDO, if you guys don't mind me asking?
Hmmm. I haven't played since the Beta days. Would I like to get back into this?
@Truvill: Dungeons & Dragons Online.
I played it for a while, and liked it a lot, but no one wanted to do anything except run the same 5 dungeons over and over again.
@aeonite: There has been a constant demand from players to have the ability to fish added to the game since long before launch (with turbine promising that it would be added eventually). I'm sure they are aiming at the players who were looking forward to this feature before they left the game.
Also, the new area (Forochel) is absolutely fantastic and definitely worth checking out.
humm... maybe we don't need to wait to the weekend to update the game, because the update is done before the login, so we can update teh game even before we are alowed to play on the weekend.
They are responding to the close release of AoC I think... If I had a powerful PC, I'd choose LOTRO, I enjoyed the beta, but in 800*600 low settings it was no as enjoyable as WoW ^^;
ug.. well im giving the free trail a go.. its taken 5 hours to dl/install... but the updating is the worst.. 3000/7000+ updates im on now.. "109%" complete ¬_¬
