How Many GTA IV Achievements Did You Unlock In A Single Day?

And by "you", I don't mean "you". I mean you, the collective owners of the game. According to Microsoft's Larry Hryb, the answer was a lot, as he claims (and really, I've no reason to doubt this) that during the first 24 hours of GTA IV being on sale, over two million achievements were unlocked. That's over 15 million Gamerpoints. I know, the first 2-3 achievements are picked up pretty quickly, and the game sold fairly well, but if anything, it shows that a frighteningly high proportion of you failed to turn up to work/school last Tuesday.

    zero

    I have a Wii. =(

  • That really isn't that much considering how many units went in the first 24 hours. Thats only like 1 achievement per copy. no?

  • I've already got 35 of the 50 achievements and I've been earning around 5 a day since Tuesday.

  • zero

I have AP Testing this week so no video games for me for two weeks =(

  • 8 achievements unlocked on 4/29

    4 on 4/30
    8 between 5/1 - 5/4

I won't be getting the full 1000GS, but I don't go by score, I care more about unlocking individual fun achievements. Out of 45 retail games played I only have 4 that have the full 1000.

  • Yea, We closed shop on Tuesday and got some freak on.

  • "Off the Boat." I didn't have much time to play the first day I put it in (the day after I bought it), as I was exhausted from a wedding the night before and preparing to go watch Iron Man.

First significant playthrough afterward I picked up Pool Shark, Driving Mr. Bellic, and King of QUB3D, however.

  • if i had 1 achievement from everyone who bought the game, id have a high gamerscore.

(lol i love that analogy, forgot what editor uses that but i laugh everytime.)

  • I haven't gotten that many achievements, as I stopped playing the game by the third day. Maybe five or six ... I just can't bring myself to play it anymore.

  • Comment on How Many GTA IV Achievements Did You Unlock In A Single Day? People skipped work for a game? It goes to show you why our country is starting to fall behind other countries. Dont get me wrong i like the game and all but i can wait a few hours to get home from work to play it also.

  • Ive got about 22 or so.
A lot of them are fun, some are 'normal' achievementy type things, and some are plain frustrating.

But still, 1000/1000 here we come.

  • @Dappa: Ye but only the 360 has achievements.

  • I think I have 4-5.Can't get the 6 star one to work like it says on inside xbox.

  • None, PS3 FTW!

  • @mphz: Out of interest, whyso? Didn't like the game or got bored? Haven't picked it up yet as I'm finishing my studies.

  • I think I got about 450 points from GTA4 so far.
Completed the story yesterday, took me 28 hours so I also got the "complete game in less than 30 hour" achievement.

  • Yeah totally didn't go to work last Tuesday. So I guess I'm part of that stat :)

  • 310/1000, completed the story mode, haven't tried multi-player yet. Unlike a lot of games, I did not play through this game with achievments in mind. I'm going back now and doing all the assassinations, car orders, etc.
I might do another play through for the 30 hour achievement while picking the other choice in all the branching paths.

  • @Kenny: Same.

    0, why? Because:
    1.) I don't own GTA4
    2.) I don't own a 360, nor would I get GTA4 on a 360.

  • One. Just the obligatory intro completion one.

Haven't had much time to play it because of work and other stuff, plus I'm still dividing my time between GTAIV and Rock Band.

  • You'll get the first one about 10 minutes into the game, so this one's pretty much a free one. Some are really easy to get if you know how (One Man Army for an example) and some are awarded after you reach certain parts of the story. Which means you'll get quite many by just playing like you'll always do. I've got 295 by now and am only at about 2/3s of the story line.
Others (like the "Key to the city") seem to be just a pain in the ass to get. Even the one with the 200 pigeons would be quite time consuming in exchange for 50 points.

  • I have 11 achievements for 130 points, with three on the first day.

I'm not looking forward to the bowling, the stunts, or pigeon achievements.

  • Last two I got was the one where you pop a whellie for 500 feet and the One Man Army one.

  • 6 achievements on the 28th.
1 on the 29th (launch party).
    28 since then.

  • I think I'm rolling about at 10. But I don't really play with achievements in mind. I'm just busy enjoying the environment. Plus I'm really liking the new feeling of driving. I thought it was a bit stiff at first but you just have to be more fluid compare to always using the handbread like in San Andreas.

  • 6 Achievements on April 29.

    2 Achievements on May 2.

    1 Achievement on May 3, May 4, May 5.

This game is so amazing. I should try out the multiplayer at some point, though.

  • I took both tuesday and wednesday off for this game. I'm on track to have everything except the multiplayer achievemnts unlocked by next week. I still ahven't tried any multiplayer. but I suppose I will if the single player ever gets boring.

  • Well, I'm responsible for seven of those. Right now, I'm at 13 achievements, and it seems that the idea of completion under 30 hours is out of the question. I've spent over ten hours just messing around with random friends who pop in.

  • @Kazzahdrane: Every three outta four missions has me chasing someone. It got repetitive and annoying. Yes, the game is massive and looks fantastic ... But there is not an ounce of creativity in the mission structure.

  • Yah I kind of played for six hours. Right now I've got... 12. I haven't been playing a lot of the missions, haha. I'm working on the Most Wanted missions. I've got one more to clear out of Bohan/Broker.

  • The most I unlocked in one night was 4 and one of them was the "Walk Free" achievement. Man was that tough, but somehow I managed to tip-toe away on a PCG 900...go figure.

  • Oh, I just don't know what I'll do with all the gamerpoints I've unlocked thanks to GTAIV. I don't know, maybe I'll buy a...what's that? Gamerpoints have no function other than impressing and cajoling like-minded 'tards? Really?

    Dangit!

  • Here's a guy that unlocked 42 Achievements in the same MINUTE, let alone the same day:

    [xboxcheaterwatch.wordpress.com]

  • ive only got about 4 and im 30% though, guess that means i suck, and by suck i mean rubbish, not the man whores type suck

  • 7!
I'm totally gonna score with all the babes now!

  • I've been pushing to get the "Liberty City Minute" achievement, so I haven't had much time to do the side quest ones.

BTW, I'm about 40% done with a play time of about 14 hrs 30 min. Am I on track to make the 30 hr achievement?

  • R* is so stingy with the achievements. I'm about 15% through the game and I've done some stuff that most definitely warranted an achievement and I've only unlocked 3! Guess you guys are just grinding it out, eh?

  • @cybereality: I'm in the same boat as you. Wish they'd come a bit easier.

  • As sad as it is, I only unlocked the Off the Boat achievement, oi, oh well.

  • This game is stingy with the achievements. I must have 15 hours put into the game and I have like 3-4 achievements.

I didn't look at the achievement list beforehand like I usually do because I was hoping to be surprised as I got the achievements, but at this point I'm assuming most of them are things you'd never do unless you knew that there was an achievement for it.

  • Hrmm, my xbox keeps disconnecting every time I start playing a game* I don't have the date on a bunch of my achivements, but I think I got at least 5 or so my first day. Off the boat, Driving Mr Bellic, Pool shark and two I won't list since they are spoilerish. I might have gotten One Hundred and Eighty as well, but I don't remember :-P.

Two million is a lot of achievements, but anyone who played for a few hours probably picked up at least 2 or 3 achievements, so I guess that number isn't all that shocking. I did stay up till midnight or so playing the game when I first got it on release day, but I did work a normal day before all that, cooked dinner, did dishes and all that jazz, so it wasn't like it was a life interrupting event!

*IDK if it's because I let my account go back to silver or if it's just my crappy Internet.

  • Image of Mr.SithNinja Mr.SithNinja at 10:00 AM on 05/07/08 *

So far I have 26 achievements with a total of 455 points.

@Al Bino: A pain in the ass it is true for the pigeons BUT you unlock the Attack Chopper when you do it.

  • Can someone remind me what is "unlocked" by completing an achievement?

This is just sort of an OCD accumulate numbers/check all the boxes off a list thing, right?

  • @Mega-Driven: Yeah it is. A Hi-Score if you will. Some love them, some hate them, some are indifferent. I think they're kind of fun, and can give you a bit of an incentive to push through when you'd otherwise give up (not a bad game, just when the going gets mind numbingly hard or something). I dismissed the very idea when I got a 360, but to an extent I enjoy racking up points as you progress. Some are really inspired, others are just basic grinding requirements (less fun). It's entirely up to you which you get though.

  • I've got 10 more singleplayer achievements left to finish (mainly the cop car side missions, stunt jumps, and "hidden packages"). I also need all of the multiplayer achievements. When i'm done whoring achievements, then i'm going to play the game all the way through again, but take my time to actually watch every cutscene. I rushed through everything to get the Liberty City Minute achievement (finished it in 26 hours flat)

  • I don't have this game and won't for a while, but 2 million achievements in one day is kind of weak for 3.6 million units sold in one day. I mean, is that 1.6 million gamers who just bought the game and put it on a shelf? It sounds like Take-Two is throwing around big numbers trying to impress the blogs and get a story out of it. Looks like it worked.

  • @Mega-Driven:

Absolutely nothing at all. They represent (normally) extra tasks/challenges that a player can complete within the game. As these are usually extracurricular to the game itself, there is no real way to reward anyone for doing these things except to award an achievement.

It accomplishes as much as a medal or a ribbon does in the real world. Some gamers ignore them completely, while others find satisfaction in accomplishing these tasks.

I personally like them as it's kind of a way of showing how good I am at wasting my personal time. Perhaps that's not something to be proud of, but at least I have something to show for it.

  • 15 million points! Boy is Microsoft's face going to be red when they have to send people free merchandise for all those points when they get redeemed!

  • This is not surprising in the least. The game sold 3.6 million copies in its first day. You basically get the first achievement for successfully waiting through the
