Spelunky 2 will be available on Steam starting September 29, two weeks after the PlayStation 4 release. This follow-up to the popular 2013 roguelike includes new areas, enemies, traps, and items for would-be explorers to encounter.

Spelunky 2 is coming in 2020, according to developer Derek Yu. The follow-up to Yu’s popular cave-diving roguelike from 2008 has been without a concrete release window since being delayed last year.

Spelunky 2 has been delayed, developer Derek Yu announced on Twitter. “Development is still going well and we’re not far off target,” Yu wrote, “but the density and detail of the game is demanding more time.” Originally scheduled for 2019, no new date was given.
Indie dev Derek Yu saw one of his games praised and one criticized in a recent feminist critique of video games. Out of that emerged a refreshingly calm and open-minded exchange between developer and critic on Twitter. It's well worth a read.
