Owning a gun is not easy in Japan. But that doesn't mean some people don't try!
As part of an hour-long special called Global Lessons on Guns hosted by Fareed Zakaria Sunday night, CNN showed just how strict Japan's gun laws are. Despite having similar spending on violent games and media to the United States, the Japanese rate of gun violence is staggeringly low.
In the clip above, you'll see the many background checks one American expat had to go through just to own a hunting rifle — including a physical, several police interrogations, interviews with family members and providing the police with a detailed layout of his house. It's possible — just very difficult.
They also allegedly sat down with an anonymous Yakuza member to talk about how even the Yakuza, who have guns, prefer not to use them (although it does happen).
