It’s possible to beat Dark Souls 3 and have no idea what really happened. Fortunately, MoonlightButterfly on YouTube has been meticulously making sense of the series’ complicated storytelling by turning them into movies.
I’ve previously highlighted MoonlightButterfly’s work on Kotaku, as the release date for Dark Souls 3 loomed. If you’re looking for an easy way to catch up on Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2, it’s your best bet.
Since Dark Souls 3 was released in April, though, I’ve been waiting for MoonlightButterly to finish work on their interpretation of Dark Souls 3.
Unsurprisingly, it’s been well worth the wait.
Clocking in at one hour, 45 minutes, and 16 seconds, MoonlightButterfly effortlessly weaves gameplay from Dark Souls 3 with dialogue, cutscenes, and other moments from that game and, on occasion, the rest of the series.
Given that Dark Souls 3's ending can play out in a few different ways, it makes sense there are a few different endings to the movie, too. Those variations are available in a play list.
If you’re looking to get a sense of what the movie’s like, here’s a clip:
