Age of Empires II is so old it was released in the 20th century. And 15 years into the 21st-century, it’s getting a new expansion.
It’s for the HD version of the game released on Steam a few years back, and will actually be the second expansion for the refreshed title; another, The Forgotten, originally developed as a fan project, was picked up by Microsoft and released in 2013.
This new expansion will begin work from the ground up as an official project, though, and as such sounds nice and ambitious. From the announcement:
As with the Forgotten Expansion, you can anticipate a lot packed in there, including new civs, campaigns, game modes, units, and more. If your focus is more on the original AOEII experience, the new content development means you can look forward to additional support and features that benefit every owner.
You can see one of those new units above. A 1999 game getting a new expansion today...PC games are just wonderful.
