You have to admire a man who enjoys a role he played so much he stars in what is essentially a big-budget fan film based on the character. Thomas Jane wouldn't mind being Marvel Comics' Punisher again, and he's got Ron Pearlman and an unbreakable bottle of Jack backing him up.
Thomas Jane was a fine selection for the role of Frank Castle in 2004's The Punisherand it's rather good video game tie-in. It's not his fault that movie execs decided he needed a little more incentive to go over the edge, transforming a poignant scene in which his immediate family is killed into a ridiculous carnival of carnage at the Castle family reunion. One could almost hear the film producers, "Well, doesn't he have an uncle? An aunt? A niece? They could support him. Kill them too."
He also had to deal with John Travolta as a villain, and that's never a good thing.
But Jane wouldn't mind taking back the role picked up by Ray Stevenson in 2008's Punisher: War Zone, so he's created this tribute to the character.
"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it."
already more people have enjoyed this than ever saw War Zone, so Jane and pals are headed in the right direction. More, please.
