The power of red plastic on Wii sales in Japan is nothing compared to the promotional power of the Monster Hunter series. How else can we explain the PlayStation Portable more than doubling its sales this week overseas?
The PSP sold another 96,000-plus units in Japan this week, the week before Monster Hunter Portable 3rd launches in the country. That's a big boost from the 40,000 it sold a week prior. Considering the last PSP iteration of Monster Hunter went on to sell more than 4 million copies in Japan alone, that figure will likely be a drop in the bucket compared to what PSP hardware will manage next week.
As previously noted, the launch of Kinect in Japan managed to move some 26,000 motion-sensing cameras. That's a little less than the weekly sales of the Wii, for loose comparison's sake.
