No disc - game, CD, DVD, whatever - sold more in 2009 than Modern Warfare 2, in the U.K. anyway, where the game bested phenomena such as Lady Gaga and Susan Boyle, and standbys like James Bond and Harry Potter.

Modern Warfare 2's sales triumph over all games of 2009 is common knowledge, but it's still interesting to see how a $60 game stacks up against lower cost entertainment alternatives. In this case, according to Britain's Entertainment Retailers Association, Activision's powerhouse shooter pushed more than three-quarters of a million more units than second place, which was "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," a DVD.

No. 3? Also a game, FIFA 10, which EA had already boasted was "neck-and-neck" with MW2 for the 2009 sales title.

Third was the James Bond DVD "Quantum of Solace," followed by "Twilight" on DVD and then Susan Boyle's CD. Wii Sports Resort was the third game on the list, at No. 7, followed by Lady Gaga's CD, and then 2009's Best Picture winner "Slumdog Millionaire" and popcorn blockbuster "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" on DVD.
