No More Neon Genesis Evangelion News Reading

Launched in June 2009, The Misato Katsuragi News Project had Neon Gensis Evangelion character Misato read the news.

As Kotaku posted previously, the news program runs on software that collects news from real-life news (politics, the economy, sports and, yes, the anime industry). A Cellius voice synthesis engine is used to have Misato read said news in real time on this Nerv News 24 television program. (Cellius is the start-up company created by Ken Kutaragi, Father of the PlayStation game console.)

It's even possible to customize the show's backdrop to the secret Evangelion Nerv headquarters, Misato's dinning room and whatnot. It's also possible to customize her hair and her clothing.

To access the news area, users have been required to purchase a thirty day pass for ¥800 (about US$8.80). Once that expires, they must purchase another one.

On June 5 this year, nearly a year after the service launched, The Misato Katsuragi News Project will cease operation in Japan.
